Description
An officer’s flintlock pistol, bearing the coat of arms of the de Bailleul family (Normandy).
Round barrel with flat sides at the muzzle, engraved with a trophy of arms. Trigger guard and swan-neck hammer with a round body. Fittings in chiselled iron with line engraving. Carved walnut stock with a silver thumb rest engraved with the coat of arms. Wooden grip.
Length: 33.5 cm.
A.B.E. Circa 1760.
This pistol probably belonged to Nicolas Charles Armand de Bailleul (1748–1823), President of the Parliament of Normandy and Grand Bailiff of Caux.
