Bruneel Pontcharra 1831-type infantry rifle. Round barrel, fine rifling, with fluted breech, fitted with a rear sight set to 250 m, stamped and dated ‘1840’. Unmarked breech block with rear sight marked at 150 m. ‘Pontcharra’-style lock marked ‘Mre Rle de Châtellerault’ and a round-bodied hammer with a flat back and long crest. Iron fittings uniformly hallmarked. Walnut stock with a 1840 stamp and the mark ‘CHATEAU’. The stock also bears the serial number ‘1’. Barrel length: 99.5 cm. Overall length: 138.5 cm. Iron sight with a large head. B.E. Smaller in size than the model described in the Boudriot, with a rear sight.
