Description
Memoirs of General Charles-Louis Trémeau: Greece: Royal Order of the Saviour. Officer’s Cross, 2nd model, Ø: 3.7 cm: vermeil, enamel, ribbon with rosette, case by Lemaitre, Paris. With certificate in Greek, signature, dry seals affixed and inked, certified translation, a letter from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs informing him of his promotion, dated Athens 13 January 1893, and a letter from the Greek Legation in France, dated 7–19 May 1893. Also included is a handwritten card informing him of his appointment, signed … Palli S of the Hellenic Corps of Engineers, along with the envelope and the Hellenic ‘Official Gazette’. Trémeau Charles-Louis (1849–1915) A cadet at the École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr in 1869 and 1870, and a Second Lieutenant in the 1st Marching Dragoon Regiment, he took part in the Siege of Paris, before joining the Cavalry School at Saumur. Promoted to Lieutenant in 1873 and Captain in 1875, he served as Aide-de-camp to the Minister of War, General Campenon, then as a second lieutenant at Saumur, and became a squadron commander in 1883. Chief of Staff of the 2nd Cavalry Division, he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1890, served as Deputy Commandant of the Saumur Cavalry School, and subsequently became Deputy Chief of Staff at the Ministry of War. He commanded the 4th Regiment of Mounted Chasseurs from 1893 to 1900, holding the rank of Colonel. He was promoted to Brigadier-General in 1899, then to Major-General in 1901. He served as Chairman of the Cavalry Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Supreme War Council in 1909.
