Description
MANNEQUIN. Combat uniform formerly belonging to G.R., a paratrooper non-commissioned officer with the 18th RCP in Algeria, comprising a ‘Bigeard’ cap, a drop jacket and TAP 47/56 camouflage trousers, a beige shirt, a pair of Model 52 combat boots, a Model 50/53 RAPCO belt, a Model 50 TAP belt harness, a MAC 50 pistol holster, and two magazine pouches, the whole set displayed on a mannequin sold with this set. The jacket features a sort of game bag at the back – a large pocket made locally from a piece of 47/53 fatigues fabric, which was used to carry extra ammunition. Shows signs of wear and tear. ABE G.R., born in 1929, served as a paratrooper with the 8th RIPC, the 18th and 1st RCP, and ended his career as a warrant officer in 1968. He undertook his first tour of duty in Indochina in 1948–1950 with the 20th Partisan Unit (Ankhé sector), then served as a staff sergeant in Tonkin with the 319th CSM (auxiliary forces) as a commando section leader. He was awarded the Legion of Honour, the Military Medal, the Combatant’s Cross, the Overseas Service Medal, the Wounded in Action Medal, etc. He is the author of a seminal memoir on commando operations in Tonkin.
