Description
Prussian foot artillery regiment helmet - officer's model 1882/99. Of the highest quality, this beautiful artillery officer's helmet has an undamaged, undrilled bomb that retains an exceptional shine. The visor and nape are of the same quality with their green and red inner lining in very good condition. The entire bomb is lined on the inside with a wine-coloured felt lining, as found on top-quality headgear. The sweatband is present, as is the green silk headdress. The size of the headdress is shown on the head of the metal button fixed under the nape of the neck to hold the back reinforcement ring: 59. The ball base is secured by four threaded stars held in place by brass nuts. Although it is not permitted to wear a haarbusch, and in accordance with a custom generally adopted by the officer corps, the ball can be unscrewed to make it easier to store and transport the headdress. The plate is the simple Prussian eagle of the line, which allows this beautiful headdress to be assigned to an officer of one of the foot artillery regiments: 4, 5, 7 to 11, 15 to 18 or 20. The pair of flat scale chinstraps is complete and undamaged. The roundels are officer style. A very fine helmet deserving a place in any collection. Officer's Model 1882/99 Pickelhaube of a Prussian Foot Artillery Regiment. Superior quality example, this very fine artillery officer's helmet features an unrepaired shell without damage, retaining an exceptional polish. The front and rear visors are matching and retain their green and red internal linings in very fine condition. The entire interior of the shell is lined with a wine-coloured felt covering, as encountered on high quality headgear. The sweatband is present, as is the green silk liner. The size 59 appears on the head of the metal stud fixed beneath the rear visor to secure the rear reinforcing trim. The ball base is secured by four threaded stars retained by brass nuts. Although officers were not officially authorised to wear a haarbusch, and according to a common practice adopted within the officer corps, the ball unscrews to facilitate storage and transport of the helmet. The plate is the plain Prussian line eagle, allowing attribution of this fine helmet to an officer of one of the following Foot Artillery Regiments: 4, 5, 7 to 11, 15 to 18 or 20. The pair of flat scale chinstraps is complete and without damage. Cockades are officer's pattern. A superb helmet deserving a place of honour in a collection.
