Description
Prussian Guard Cuirassier helmet, troop model 1867. The helmet is made of tombac with a specific "staircase" visor and a long "lobster tail" nape. All fittings are nickel silver. The bomb has four holes at the top to fix the point and a large central hole to fix the parade eagle. The four tip fixing holes have been doubled, perhaps when the tip was replaced. The bomb is in good condition with the exception of a slight dent to the front of the base. The parade eagle is of the latest model adopted in 1870, so the base no longer has the four round screw heads. There is a slight indentation on the top of the left wing, an accident frequently seen on this type of crest. The plate is a late model with two threaded rods that pass through the two holes in the front of the bomb and are held in place by two small nuts. The curved chinstrap is true to the model and not missing. The Prussian roundel is worn on the right-hand side of the chinstrap. Underneath is an embossed marking: G.K. 6, indicating an allocation to the Garde Cuirassiers Regiment (Garde Kürassier). The inner leather cap is present. A fine Guard headdress representative of a helmet worn during the period between the 1870 war and the accession to the throne of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Model 1867 trooper's cuirassier helmet of the Prussian Guard. Tombac helmet with its characteristic stepped front visor and long lobster-tail rear visor. All fittings in German silver. Fine shell retaining its four upper holes for the attachment of the field service spike and the large central hole intended for the parade eagle. The four spike fixing holes have been reinforced, possibly during a replacement of the spike. The shell remains in fine condition apart from a slight dent at the front of the spike base. The parade eagle is of the final pattern adopted in 1870, therefore the base no longer retains the four rounded screw heads. A slight dent is visible on the upper section of the left wing, a common occurrence on this type of crest. The plate is a late pattern secured by two threaded posts passing through the two holes made at the front of the shell and fixed internally with small nuts. The domed scale chinstrap is correct to the model and complete. The Prussian cockade is correctly worn on the right attachment of the chinstrap. Beneath it is a struck marking G.K. 6 indicating issue to the Garde Kürassier Regiment. The leather liner remains present. A fine Guard helmet representative of the transitional period between the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and the accession of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
