Officer Bucholtz's sabre of the Imperial German Navy offered by Fritz Starklof, submariner of U-Boot 85. Lion head pommel sabre with ruby coloured beads for the eyes, the right one missing. White handle with watermark. Guard with naval anchor and imperial crown. Counterplate engraved with the name Bucholtz. Blade in faux damascus from the maker Weyersberg, a few spots of oxidation, dedicated, a gift from Starklof to his beloved friend Bucholtz. Name probably related to Oberleutnant zur See Fritz Starklof, officer aboard U-85, sunk in 1917. With silver strap. Leather scabbard with finely chased and decorated brass fittings, 2 bracelets and suspension rings. Buckle clasp no longer attached, one strap clasp missing. With its leather clasp and leonine buckle. Wear from use. Imperial German Navy officer's sabre. Presented to Officer Bucholtz of the Imperial German Navy by Fritz Starklof, submariner of U-85. Lion-head pommel with ruby-red glass eyes, one eye missing. Folding guard featuring a crowned anchor and Imperial crown. Counter-guard engraved with the name Bucholtz. Faux-Damascus blade manufactured by Weyersberg, showing minor traces of oxidation and decorated with naval motifs. The name is believed to have been added in memory of Oberleutnant zur See Fritz Starklof, officer aboard U-85, sunk in 1917. Complete silver bullion portepee. Scabbard with finely chased and decorated brass fittings, fitted with two suspension rings and bands. One suspension band detached from the scabbard and one bracelet loop missing.
