Description
Helmet of the 73rd Hanover Rifle Regiment - officer's model 1871/99. This is a mythical headdress, as it was the helmet worn by the officers of the unit in which Ernst Jünger served, the famous German author of the book "Storms of Steel", in which he recounts his experiences in the Sturmtruppen during the First World War. The headdress is in very good condition, both inside and out, with its tan leather sweatband and light brown silk cap. The visor and nape shield linings retain their green and red colours and are in perfect condition. The high point can be unscrewed and the pair of flat scale chinstraps are fully trimmed. The Prussian roundels are officer style. The plate features the eagle of the line of Prussian units, but since 24 January 1889 has carried the banners "Peninsula-Waterloo", which were added in memory of the battles in which the unit took part in the ranks of the Royal German Legion of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. This is a fine helmet, representative of the headgear worn by officers at the start of the First World War, and it is all the more interesting because it represents a particular unit. Officer's model 1871/99 helmet of the 73rd Hanoverian Fusilier Regiment. This is a legendary helmet, as it belonged to officers of the unit in which Ernst Jünger served, the celebrated German author of Storm of Steel, recounting his experiences with the Sturmtruppen during the First World War. The helmet remains in exceptionally fine overall condition, both externally and internally, with its fawn leather sweatband and light brown silk liner. The front and rear visor linings retain their green and red colours in perfect condition. The tall spike is removable and the pair of flat scale chinstraps retains all fittings. The Prussian cockades are officer's pattern. The plate is the line eagle of the Prussian Army, but bears the scrolls "Peninsula-Waterloo", added from 24 January 1889 onwards in memory of the unit's service within the King's German Legion of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. A fine helmet representative of those worn by officers at the beginning of the First World War and all the more interesting as it represents a particularly distinctive regiment.
