Description
Alter Art pioneer cap. Feldgrau gabardine, dark green cloth headband. Triple black piping for Engineer units. The piping was originally white for the infantry, but was probably recoloured with black felt-tip pen after the war years. This is an old technique used by forgers in the 1980s to change weapon colours. Metal eagle. This has not been dismantled in order to check the attachments. Hand-sewn Bevo oak leaves. Soft leather visor. Lined with brown silky fabric. Mica missing. Leather sweatband. Very nice broken shape. Some wear and patina to be noted, as well as a few moth marks. Condition II+.Early-pattern Pioneer visor cap (Alter Art). Field-grey gabardine construction with dark green wool band. Black triple piping of the Engineer (Pionier) branch. The piping was originally white for Infantry service and has been recoloured, most likely with black marker, after the war. This alteration is characteristic of a method commonly employed by counterfeiters during the 1980s to change branch colours. Metal eagle insignia in place; the insignia have not been removed to verify the attachments. Hand-sewn BeVo oak leaves. Soft leather visor. Interior lined in brown silk-like fabric. Celluloid diamond absent. Leather sweatband present. Attractive crushed combat-style shape. Showing honest wear and patina, together with some traces of moth damage. Condition II+.
