Description
Commander's Cross of the Order of the Roman Eagle. White enamelled cross edged in blue, surmounted by the eagle of Savoy, charged with a shield on a blue background. The three Republican bundles appear on the back of the decoration. Full purple ribbon with white piping. The lanyard is complete. The order was instituted by Vittorio Emanuele III of Savoy to reward foreigners who had rendered eminent services to the Italian state or contributed to the strengthening of diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Italy. This distinction was awarded to a number of Reich dignitaries and German diplomats. A small chip in the white enamel on the back. Slight wear and patina to the coin. Condition I-. Commander's Cross of the Order of the Roman Eagle White enamel cross edged in blue, surmounted by the Savoy eagle bearing a shield on a blue field. The reverse shows three republican fasces. Complete purple ribbon with white edges and full-length neck cord. The order was established by King Vittorio Emanuele III of Savoy to reward foreigners who rendered distinguished service to the Italian state or strengthened diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Italy. This distinction was notably awarded to several Reich dignitaries and German diplomats. Minor chip on the reverse enamel. Slight wear and patina noted. Condition I-.
