Description
Commander's Cross of the Crown of Italy. Very fine box with EV metal monogram under crown. Interior lined in satinette and blue velvet. Functional clasp. Made by Johson Roma. The gold cross pattée is covered with white enamel. The branches of the cross are linked by four Savoy knot love lakes in braided gold wire. In the centre of the cross, on the obverse, is a gold medallion enamelled blue, featuring the crown of the King of the Lombards. The gold medallion on the reverse features a black-enamelled eagle with the enamelled Savoy cross in its mandorla, heraldic symbols taken from the great arms of the sovereigns of the House of Savoy. The ribbon is tierced with a white stripe between two red stripes. Miniature and buttonhole present. Some wear and patina. Condition II+. Rounded gilt cross pattée covered in white enamel. Arms joined by four interlaced love knots Savoy knots in twisted gold wire. Central obverse medallion of blue enamel bearing the crown of the Lombard kings, reverse medallion depicting a black-enamelled eagle bearing the Savoy cross, heraldic symbols of the House of Savoy.
