Description
Heer officer's dagger, model 1935 Carl Eickhorn. Manufacturers sell their daggers directly from their own factory outlets or through specialist military retailers. In this case, distributors can have their name embossed on the heel of the blade, on the side opposite the manufacturer's logo. In reality, however, this is not a very common procedure, and only a handful of examples have this unique marking. This is the case for this dagger produced by Carl Eickhorn, which was sold by C.A. Staehle in Stuttgart, as indicated by the marking on the obverse of the blade. The spindle is a beautiful yellow-orange colour and the handle fittings are in cast brass covered with high-quality silver plating, as is the case with early makers. A small piece of leather is fitted under the hilt to seal the scabbard and cushion the impact when the blade is inserted into the scabbard. The blade is in fine condition and bears the maker's mark of Carl Eickhorn on the reverse, one of two types used from 1935 to 1941. The scabbard is made of silver-plated steel as it was when this model was first produced. The dagger is fitted with its regulation strap. A fine Heer dagger whose distributor's markings make it a rare item. Heer officer dagger model 1935 by Carl Eickhorn. Sold through distributor C.A. Staehle Stuttgart, whose name is stamped on the blade's obverse opposite the manufacturer logo. Amber-colored grip in excellent condition. Fittings in cast brass with quality silver plating typical of early production. Small leather buffer under the crossguard ensures scabbard seal and shock absorption. Blade in very good condition with early-style Eickhorn squirrel logo used between 1935 and 1941. Nickel-plated steel scabbard from early production. Complete with regulation portepee. Rare distributor marking makes this a desirable piece.
