Description
Denison Smock 1st model identified 1st BFMC. Made entirely of camouflage fabric, Newey brass press studs, original sewn beavertail and two press studs. Hip straps present, knit fabric at the bottom of each sleeve with a few repairs. Original sewn-in collar flannel, replaced Conmar American-made zip. At the back, several traces of shrapnel that killed the soldier. The original sewn label indicates a size 3 and an effect manufactured by Wareings Ltd in 1942, War Department stamp present with letter N indicating receipt in 1943. According to the seller's information, this jacket belonged to Lieutenant Leopold Hulot, a former commando with the 1st Battalion of Marine Fusiliers Commandos. Born in 1923 in Vannes, he landed on 6 June 1944 at Ouistreham as part of the Kieffer commando, and later took part in Operation Infatuate in Holland. He then went to Indochina and served with the 5th Laotian Commando before being killed in September 1948 during a raid in northern Laos after his section came across mines and grenades, one of which was booby-trapped and fatally wounded him. According to the previous owner, this smock belonged to Lieutenant Léopold Hulot, former commando of the 1st Battalion of Naval Fusilier Commandos.
