Lot no. 4614
Description
Sword for SS non-commissioned officers. Unlike the SS Officer's Sword of Honour, this sword was not intended for members of the Allgemeine SS. Only non-commissioned officers with a portepee from the SS-Verfügungstruppe and SS-Totenkopfverbände, which later formed the Waffen SS, were authorised to wear it. The black fuse, pommel and wide ferrule are in very good condition and show the engravings usually found on this weapon, such as the double runes that appear in relief on the top of the pommel. The hilt is well positioned and free of bumps. A piece of leather is placed under the guard to ensure that the scabbard is watertight. The blade is in good condition, with no damage or traces of oxidation. On the reverse is the maker's mark Carl Eickhorn. The kulturzeichen is clearly present on the entrance to the scabbard as well as under the front part of the hilt. The scabbard is untouched with most of its paint black. A two-line inscription is visible on the top of the reverse of the scabbard, but it is difficult to read. There is a repair at the base of the scabbard which may be concealable if the owner so wishes. Very unusual weapon. SS Non-Commissioned Officer Sword Unlike the SS Officer Honour Sword this sword was not intended for members of the Allgemeine SS. It was authorized only for NCOs with portepee of the SS Verfügungstruppe and SS Totenkopfverbände later integrated into the Waffen SS. The black grip pommel and ferrule are in very good condition and show the typical engravings including the double runes in relief on the pommel top. The guard is well fitted without damage and a leather washer is placed under it to seal the scabbard. The blade is in fine condition without damage or oxidation. The reverse bears the Carl Eickhorn maker mark. The kulturzeichen is present on the scabbard throat and beneath the front section of the crossguard. The scabbard shows no teeth and retains much of its black paint. A two line inscription is faintly visible on the upper reverse of the scabbard and a small repair at the base could be concealed if desired. Very scarce weapon.
