Description
SS dagger model 1933 - Klittermann & Moog exclamation mark. Until very recently, this manufacturer was unknown to collectors. Along with Jacobs, they are the only two manufacturers to have produced this type of dagger, whose motto is followed by an exclamation mark. Of the two manufacturers, Klitterman & Moog is the most rarely encountered, with very few pieces bearing this maker's mark circulating in collectors' circles. The fuse is in very good condition with some minor damage to the base of the back. All the fittings (dagger and scabbard) are in nickel silver, attesting to early manufacture. A particular characteristic of these two manufacturers is the frequent absence of the Roman numeral of one of the SS control and distribution centres. There are a few stains on the blade, but these do not detract from the overall quality of this dagger. The calligraphy of the motto has its own characteristics that distinguish it from the engraving of its competitor Jacobs. See page 40 of the reference work L'ordre noir, Armes blanches, traditions et symbolique published by Heimdal - 2023. The scabbard has 98% of its black paint. One of the rarest and most coveted daggers among collectors of Third Reich daggers, it is very rarely offered on the collector's market. SS Dagger Model 1933 Exclamation Point Klittermann & Moog Until recently this maker was virtually unknown to collectors. Together with Jacobs these are the only two manufacturers known to have produced daggers with the motto ending in an exclamation point. Of the two Klittermann & Moog is the rarer with very few examples known in collections. The grip is in good condition with minor damage near the base on the reverse. All fittings on dagger and scabbard are nickel silver confirming early manufacture. A particular feature of these two makers is the frequent absence of the Roman numeral mark indicating control or distribution through an SS center. The blade shows light spotting that does not affect the overall appearance. The motto engraving has a distinctive style easily distinguished from that of Jacobs. See page 40 of the reference work L'ordre noir, Armes blanches, traditions et symbolique, Heimdal 2023. The scabbard retains 98% of its black paint. One of the rarest and most sought-after SS daggers of the Third Reich and seldom offered on the collectors' market.
