Description
SS exit bayonet, model KS 98. The manufacturer of this exit bayonet with 20 cm blade and active push-button has not yet been identified, but its purpose is clear from its marking, which is also known from the blade of some 1933 model service daggers. This bayonet was issued in 1935, i.e. at the very beginning of the creation of the SS-Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT), for whose personnel it was clearly intended. The handle has two riveted black bakelite plates in perfect condition. The nickel plating is clearly visible, as is the piece of leather under the guard designed to seal the scabbard. The blade is also in perfect condition, with the only maker's marks being the double runes, the RZM logo and the numbers 188/35. The scabbard is in black painted steel. On the reverse side, there is a slight impact on the lower part of the scabbard, attesting to its use. The paint is 90% intact. This bayonet was intended to be worn during outings and permissions granted to the very first members of what was soon to become the Waffen-SS. An uncommon item. SS Dress Bayonet Model KS 98 Maker not identified but the marking on the blade clearly indicates Waffen SS use and corresponds to markings found on some early Model 1933 service daggers. This short bayonet of 20 cm blade length was introduced in 1935 at the beginning of the SS Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT) and was intended for personnel of these units. The grip has two black bakelite plates riveted and in perfect condition. The nickel plating of the metal parts is complete and the leather washer under the guard is intact. The blade is in excellent condition with only the SS double rune logo the RZM mark and the numbers 188/35 engraved near the ricasso. The steel scabbard retains 90% of its black paint with a small dent near the lower section showing service use. This type of bayonet was carried during leaves and dress occasions by the first members of what would soon become the Waffen SS. Rare piece.
