Poster abandoned population trust the german soldiers. Paper, black and white drawing. Inscriptions in colour. This poster was the first to be published in France by German propaganda in the early hours of the occupation, in June 1940. It was signed by Théo Matejko (1893-1946), an Austrian-born illustrator and press cartoonist who devoted his entire career to National Socialist propaganda. The slogan, in red and black capital letters, Populations abandonnées, faites confiance au soldat allemand (Abandoned peoples, put your trust in the German soldier) is aimed directly at the French population. The overall message is clear: the German soldier is no longer the adversary of a war that is now over, but becomes the benevolent and nurturing occupier, a recourse for French families abandoned by their leaders. Size 86 x 120. Some visible repairs to the back, which were carried out by a professional. There is slight wear and patina to the piece, as well as a few tears on the sides and a trace of damp. Very good condition. Condition I-.
