Description
French cavalry officer's sabre, model 1896. Gilt brass mounting, horn spindle, watermark missing, pommel with bead and short tail chased with foliage, symmetrical shell guard with 5 branches chased with foliage with Medusa head, straight blade with double hollow sides, traces of oxidation, iron scabbard with one ring. Length of weapon approx. 99 cm, blade alone 84.2 cm. With leather strap. French Model 1896 cavalry officer's sabre. Gilt brass hilt with horn grip, missing wire binding. Pommel with raised rim and short tang chiselled with foliage motifs. Symmetrical five branch guard decorated with foliage and Medusa head motif. Straight blade with double fullers showing traces of oxidation. Iron scabbard with single suspension ring. Overall length approximately 99 cm with blade length 84.2 cm. Complete with leather sword knot
