A very fine iron skullcap, this protective cap was worn under the kepi and after the advent of the Adrian helmet, it ended its career as an ammunition bowl in the trenches. Rare to find in this condition. Superficial oxidation. French protective skull cap. Fine iron protective skull cap intended to be worn beneath the kepi.
