Buoy from the French aviso Cassini of 1915. Floats in a white canvas belt, with braces and fastening strap. The Cassini was a torpedo-boat aviso that entered service in 1900. Assigned to patrol the Mediterranean during the war, she sank with her crew in February 1917 after stepping on a mine in the Strait of Bonifacio. Wear from use, patina.
