Description
Telegrapher then Pioneer troop helmet. M1895 helmet of the Telegraphen Battalion Nr 2. Until 1907, telegraphers wore the Pioneer helmet, replaced from that date by a Tschako. A rare example received in 1905 as Telegraphen Bataillon Nr2, marked with the italic capital T, then reversed from 1907 to MPB4 for Magdeburgisches Pionier Bataillon Nr 4. MPB4 marked on the nape of the neck and in the bomb near the Teller. Nice leather bomb, not pierced. All nickel silver fittings. Nice Prussian eagle plate with Berlin white. Point fixed, seems attached of origin. Good chinstrap and roundels. Black leather wolf tooth cap with significant wear. Uncommon markings and very nice plate. Enlisted pickelhaube of a Telegraphist later converted for Pioneer troops. Model 1895 helmet originally issued to Telegraphen Bataillon Nr 2. Rare example accepted in 1905 by Telegraphen Bataillon Nr 2 with italic capital T marking, later reissued from 1907 to MPB4 for Magdeburgisches Pionier Bataillon Nr 4. MPB4 markings present on the rear neck guard and inside the shell near the spike base. Fine unrepaired leather shell. All fittings in nickel silver. Fine Prussian eagle plate in Berlin silver finish.
