Estimate €200 - €500
Description
Oil on canvas of a Bavarian pilot non-commissioned officer. Nice portrait of a Bavarian pilot. NCO in M1915 Bluse, with Litzen and rank buttons on collar, Bavarian pilot's licence, Iron Cross 1st Class, M15 shoulder straps of the Bavarian Fliegertruppen. Soft Schirmmütze probably in silk, with leather chinstrap. Canvas nailed to a wooden frame, approximately 72.4 x 95.4 cm. The canvas has been reduced, making it impossible to read the full signature, painted in red. It reads R. BERHR?N? and dates, unless I am mistaken, to 1920. Perhaps the painter is Rudolf Berhend, himself a war veteran, or an illustrious unknown. The canvas is intact, paint cracked. Wear, patina, needs cleaning.
