Estimate €130 - €250
Description
A US17 helmet registered to a soldier of the 80th Division. A fine US17 helmet, complete and in good condition. The diamond-shaped side badge may correspond to that of the 2nd or 3rd Battalion of the 317th Infantry; paint appears to have been added over it. The helmet is personalised to Luther Wells Tooker, originally from Connecticut, who was successively posted to the 304th, 164th, 138th and then the 319th Infantry Regiments. Given that the 319th was also part of the 80th Division, the helmet was probably acquired by Tooker whilst he was posted to the 319th. Signs of wear and tear, patina. Named US M1917 helmet of the 80th Division. A fine, complete US M1917 helmet in good condition. Diamond-shaped side insignia possibly corresponding to the 2nd or 3rd Battalion of the 317th Infantry, with later paint applied over it. Inscribed to Luther Wells Tooker of Connecticut, who served successively in the 304th, 164th, 138th and 319th Infantry Regiments. As the 319th also belonged to the 80th Division, Tooker probably acquired the helmet whilst serving with that unit. Shows signs of wear and has developed a patina.
