Description
Marine Festung Pioneer Battalion 360 dish. Ceramic, floral decoration and naval anchor. Marked on the back Henriot Quimper Mar Fest Pi Btl 360 1942. Diameter 26.2 cm. Some wear and patina. Condition II+. The Marine-Bau-Bataillon 360 was created on 15 July 1941 in Marseille, from the army's construction battalion 360. Initially organised into three companies, it was employed throughout France. Until 1944, the battalion was reinforced to a strength of five companies. At the end of 1942, it was renamed Marine-Festungs-Pionier-Bataillon 360. For the year 1943, the following places of intervention are attested. A company under the command of the Western Naval Group, a company on the island of Pomègues under the command of the Languedoc Maritime Defence, a company in Port-de-Bouc under the command of the Languedoc Maritime Defence, a company under the command of the Western Naval Group and a company in Fabrègues, near Sète, under the command of the Languedoc Maritime Defence. In August 1944, the battalion was destroyed in the south of France. Marine-Festungs-Pionier-Bataillon 360 was reconstituted in December 1944 in Bremervörde and placed under the authority of the commander of the Elbe-Weser maritime region. Initially organised into three companies, it was employed on the French Mediterranean coast until 1944, before being reinforced with a fifth company. At the end of 1942 it was redesignated Marine-Festungs-Pionier-Bataillon 360. During 1943, its documented deployments included one company attached to Naval Group Command West, one company on Île de Pomègues under the Maritime Defence Command of Languedoc, one company at Port-de-Bouc under the same command, one company attached to Naval Group Command West, and one company on Île de Sète under the Maritime Defence Command of Languedoc. In August 1944 the battalion was destroyed in southern France. It was reconstituted in December 1944 at Bremervörde and placed under the authority of the Commander of the Elbe-Weser Maritime Region.
