Description
Earthenware tile from the 10th U Boot Flotille. In coloured ceramic, representing the symbol of the 10th Uboot Flotille. This tile comes from the ruins of a bunker in Lorient in which the Soldatenheim was located. When the Germans left, the bunker was scuttled. This tile was found in the remains of the same bunker. A Youtube film has been made about it. Tile with a few missing pieces, broken and salvaged. A few gaps have been filled with mortar. The Henriot Quimper marking is illegible. Dimensions 15.5 x 15.5 cm. To note a certain wear and patina of the piece. Condition II+. The 10. Unterseebootsflottille was the 10th German submarine flotilla of the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War. Formed in Lorient on 15 January 1942 as a combat flotilla, it was placed under the command of Kapitänleutnant Günther Kuhnke. Its activities came to an end in August 1944, when the last boats left the Lorient submarine base for Norway. Korvettenkapitän Günther Kuhnke was the last to leave the base aboard U-Boat U-853 on 27 August 1944, arriving at his new base in Flensburg, Germany, on 14 October 1944 as part of 33.
