Description
Flat of the 2nd U boots Flotille. Oval model in sky blue. Badge of the U boots and 2 U Boot Flotille. Dimensions 32 x 23.5 cm. Made by Henriot Quimper. Founded in Kiel on 1st September 1936, under the command of Fregattenkapitän Werner Scheer, it was named the Unterseebootsflottille Saltzwedel in honour of oberleutnant zur see Reinhold Saltzwedel, a U-Boot commander in the First World War. In June 1940, she was assigned to the Lorient submarine base as a combat flotilla, until August 1944 when she left Lorient for Norway before being disbanded the same month. Slight wear and patina. Condition I-. 2nd U-Boat Flotilla platter. Sky-blue oval ceramic platter bearing the U-Boat insignia and the inscription 2 U Boot Flotille. Dimensions 32 × 23.5 cm. Manufactured by Henriot Quimper. Founded at Kiel on 1 September 1936, the flotilla later operated from Lorient as a combat flotilla from June 1940 until its withdrawal to Norway in August 1944. Showing slight wear and patina.
