Description
Bas-relief from Obersalzberg. Comprising a bas relief in solid oak. Finely carved. The sides have floral motifs. The centre is carved with an eagle, a helmet and a sword surmounted by an iron cross. On either side we can make out a mountain village, which could be the town of Berchtesgaden. A second bas-relief in solid oak, finely carved. Floral decorations on either side. The inscription Unsere Ehre heisst Treue. According to the seller's information, the two bas-reliefs were taken by a veteran of the 2nd Armoured Division at Obersalzberg in May 1945. They are believed to have come from either the wooden guardhouse at the entrance to the Berghof ascent or the SS Kaserne at Obersalberg. Length 133 x 15 x 3.5 cm. Some wear and patina to parts. Condition II+. Obersalzberg carved reliefs. Pair of finely carved solid oak relief panels. One depicts an eagle, helmet and sword above an Iron Cross, flanked by mountain village scenes possibly representing Berchtesgaden. The second features floral decoration and the inscription Unsere Ehre heisst Treue. According to the vendor, both pieces were removed by a veteran of the French 2nd Armoured Division at Obersalzberg in May 1945 and may have originated from the Berghof guard post or the SS barracks. Dimensions 133 × 15 × 3.5 cm. Showing honest wear and patina. Condition II+.
