Description
US M/M1 helmet. McCord-manufactured shell, number 977C. Spot-welded stainless steel rim. Hinged stainless steel ear flaps, indicating manufacture prior to November 1944. Brass buckle and straight-section brass wire hook. Olive drab chin strap No. 7.  Inner helmet liner with MSA logo. Chevron-pattern suspension, steel counter-rivets, notched steel buckle at the front. The chin strap is intact but fragile. Flat cotton lace. Initials ‘BS’ inscribed by the soldier on the sweatband. Very fine exterior paintwork. This helmet belonged to a French soldier.
