A superb pair of heavy fluted pistols for naval use, with octagonal bronze barrels that are semi-cylindrical then conical in shape, heavily fluted; the upper part of the frame bears the marking ‘London’ and the left side bears three English proof marks, round-bodied hammers signed ‘Ketland & Co’, swan-neck hammers with central ridges, brass basins, firing springs screwed in from the inside, all fittings in bronze, rear-curving caps decorated with relief carving, round bridges, two rod channels, the rear channel forming a hood, counter-plates cut with a floral motif, superb varnished light walnut mountings extending almost to the muzzle, a floral relief carving is visible at the thumb rest, the rear of the wooden mounting on the trigger guard and counter-guard is finished with a teardrop-shaped relief, no visible nicks or repairs, mechanisms in working order.
