A rare French Navy percussion pistol, Model 1849, with a barrel dated 1851 and bearing the marking ‘Modèle 1849’ on its long breech tail, flat, kidney-shaped lock body marked “Manufacture Nationale de Châtellerault”, a through-bolt securing the counter-plate, on which the belt hook is machined, hinged ramrod with a chain, all fittings in brass, cap stamped with a naval anchor, flat-sided varnished walnut stock, acceptance mark on the left, somewhat illegible, mechanism in working order.
