Description
An interesting revolver of the Hill type, a simplified version of the Galand Somerville system, sold by Charles François Galand, with an octagonal 9 mm Galand calibre barrel, bearing the crowned letters ‘CFG’ (Charles François Galand) on the right-hand side and a crowned ‘P’ proof mark on the left-hand side, a half-moon front sight, a smooth cylinder that advances when a lever, mounted on the sides of the frame, is tilted downwards and is held in place by a spring-loaded button beneath the barrel; when this lever is pushed downwards, the cylinder advances whilst the collective extractor remains in place, when this lever is raised, the cylinder returns to its position in the open frame; a significant gap remains between the rampart and the rear face of the cylinder to accommodate the thick bases of the specific 9 mm Galand cartridge; the wide barrel base on the right bears the number 24. Single- and double-action mechanism; the action opens via a spring-loaded piston push-button, which can be operated to swing the action backwards or also to swing it onto the fully polished white frame, with a crown ring and a one-piece, varnished checkered walnut stock. A fine firearm featuring a rarely seen action.
