A rare French hunting bayonet, with a straight blade featuring a flat back and a counter-cut in the final third, 555 mm in length, two lightening grooves, marked “F.H’ in an oval on the ricasso, short, flat, symmetrical guard with a rounded end, short pommel bearing a rectangular tenon pierced on its left flank; another tenon is also machined on the left flank of the guard crossbar, a strong spring screwed into the back of the pommel and attached to the crossguard controls the bayonet’s locking mechanism; black horn tang with twisted strands, in its leather scabbard, with a cut-out steel ferrule; the scabbard tip is missing; the leather is unstitched.
