An officer’s sabre produced by a private manufacturer, marked in an oval cartouche ‘Barré, manufacturer in Paris’, with a slender, straight blade with a flat back, two fuller grooves and a counter-cut in the last quarter, multi-branch bronze hilt, with a long-tailed pommel engraved with the intertwined initials ‘FM’, the ‘M’ being hatched, prominent half-olive-shaped rivet button; the main guard branch splits asymmetrically at its base into round, reed-like strands—five on one side, one on the other—the latter itself splitting into two strands; flat quillon arched forwards; horn pommel featuring a main filigree design of a silver chevron framed by two fine filigree patterns in copper wire; housed in a steel scabbard with a single strap and a movable ring.
