A fine pair of Louis XV-era half-saddle pistols by ‘Gillet à Tulle’, smooth-bore, detachable forced-ball barrels with a calibre of 40 balls per pound, reinforced muzzle, detachment square on the lower side, round lock body bearing the signature ‘Gillet’ on one and ‘Tulle’ on the other, swan-neck hammer, iron lock-plate, iron-mounted, fine varnished light walnut stock. A very fine pair of pistols in remarkably fresh condition; the signature of this gunsmith from Tulle suggests they were likely used by the Navy; mechanisms in working order.
