Description
Napoleon III period glass bookcase, signed Charles HUNSINGER (1823 - 1893)
in blackened wood and carved boxwood. The entablature is decorated with roundels and scimitars flanked by Roman and grotesque helmets, accompanied by the attributes of Saint Michael (dragons and halberds). The panels in the lower section repeat the helmet motif in the centre, while the side panels - arranged as mirrors - depict standards adorned with a centurion's breastplate, masks, weapons and amphorae. It opens through two glass doors with bevelled glass, a moulded cornice and pilaster jambs topped with putti. The plinth base ends in two ball feet at the front and two straight feet at the back.
