Mohammed LAGZOULI (Fez, born in 1937) Musicians, (19)92 Gouache on paper 34 x 48 cm (view size) Signed and dated lower left: MLagzouli 92 Born in 1937 in Salé and orphaned at a very young age, Mohamed Lagzouli initially worked in various trades – as a gardener, hairdresser, café owner and second-hand dealer – before turning to painting. He owes his first steps in the arts to Jacqueline Brodskis, who ran a workshop for the Ministry of Youth and Sport in Rabat. Alongside Miloud Labied and Hassan El Farrouj, he joined her studio in 1957, encouraged by the artist to pursue this path. Active on the art scene since the 1960s, he has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and several of his works form part of the collections at the Musée de l’Art brut in Lausanne. He lives and works in Salé.
