CALLIAT (Victor)
Paris City Hall: measured, drawn, engraved and published by Victor Calliat, architect and inspector of the City Hall. With a history of this monument and research on the municipal government of Paris by Le Roux de Lincy. Paris, published by the author and by Carilian-Goeury and Victor Dalmont, 1844–1856. 2 parts bound in 1 vol. in-plano (62 x 53 cm), black half-shagreen, decorated ribbed spine, gilded coat of arms of the City of Paris in the centre of the covers (contemporary binding). Binding worn.
First edition, complete with its supplement, illustrated with a frontispiece, 42 plates (separate from the text), including 2 in colour, as well as 5 large headpieces and a plate of engraved seals (separate from the text). A remarkable monograph on the former Paris Town Hall, destroyed in May 1871 following a fire during the Commune.
Skinning. Included is a printed and handwritten letter from the Prefect of the Seine, dated 21 June 1858 and addressed to the mayor of the 5th arrondissement, Mr Delore.
