CHINA, late 19th century Large four-poster bed in red lacquered wood, carved and gilded Richly decorated throughout with carved and openwork panels featuring scenes of life, figures, pavilions and floral motifs. The architecturally designed structure is punctuated by finely moulded pilasters and architraves; the upper band features a continuous narrative frieze, whilst the lower section is adorned with horizontal registers decorated with dragons, phoenixes and stylised architectural motifs.
