Description
17th-century Flemish school. Presumed portrait of Diego Mexia Felipez de Guzmán y Dávila (1580–1655), Viscount of Butarque and 1st Marquis of Leganés. Statesman and military commander, Viceroy of Catalonia. Oil on copper. H: 5.4 cm. Gable-framed in silver with floral decoration (hallmarks), (Missing sections and restorations). Inspired by a portrait by van Dyck painted around 1634. On the reverse, a label: Collection of Minister of State Achiel van Acker (1898–1975)/Galerie Garnier, Oct. 1979 Expert: N. Lemoine-Bouchard.
