Portrait of an inspired young man, with heavily powdered hair, shown from the waist up
in a three-quarter view to the right, his head turned to the left, wearing a blue suit and a white waistcoat embroidered
with burgundy ears of corn, a white cravat rising up under the neck, a heart-shaped medallion hanging from it, a cravat pin; his left hand is visible, holding a letter, against a grey sky background, with a tower visible on the left, circa 1795–1800.
Oval ivory miniature, visible height: 6.7 cm
On the reverse, gold gilding; on the cardboard backing, the inscription: ‘C h lier’
Cast and gilded metal frame with a beaded border, height 8.2 cm.
Previously restored to repair tears at the bottom of the costume; the repair is barely visible.
