Description
Joseph Hippolyte LEQUEUTRE (Dunkirk, 1793–Paris, 1877). A young woman in a black dress and fur stole, shown from the waist up, seated in a three-quarter view to the right in an interior setting. Miniature on ivory, signed and dated on the right in red: Lequeutre 1843. Height of subject: 9.6 cm. Rectangular frame in blackened wood with a gilded brass visor, Height: 17 cm. Weight: 175 g. A pupil of Louis-François Aubry and J-B. Isabey, J.-H. Lequeutre was one of the Duchess of Berry’s miniature painters. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1822 to 1864, and was awarded a medal in 1831. Expert: N. Lemoine-Bouchard. A CITES certificate will be issued to the purchaser, permitting movement only within the European Union.
