Description
18th-century brass equinoctial sundial; upper plate engraved with flowers and scrolls; hour circle adjustable according to the latitudes engraved on the slider. Latitudes of various cities, including Lisbon, Vienna, Augsburg, Paris and Prague, are indicated beneath the compass bowl. 4.8 x 5 cm. Preserved in its case. Some damage. Also included is a wooden and paper sundial with watercolour highlights, featuring a compass on the base; the reverse bears the latitudes for America, Spain, France, Italy and Germany. Probably Germany. 18th-century piece, bearing the name ‘Stochert’ inside the compass. L: 10.5 cm, W: 6.5 cm.
