Description
A set of three scarves, including a Freemason’s scarf. Blue moiré fabric with a gold thread pattern, embroidered with Masonic symbols such as a compass, set square, mallet and flaming star; a cross-shaped design featuring a compass and set square, three dots and letters. A red rosette holds a gold-plated metal pendant bearing the letter ‘G’ within a five-pointed star centred on the compass and square. L: 60 cm. Some missing parts and signs of wear. Two black moiré silk sashes, one of which features a silver-plated compass and set square. Length: 79 cm and 50 cm. Also included is a rectangular piece of beige silk with black edging, featuring an embroidered design of three hearts within a circle formed by a serpent; the lower section is pleated. 34 x 10 cm. Provenance: Auguste BERGER (178–1866). Chief pharmacist at Grenoble Hospital, then passed down through the family to the collection of Dr Joseph Flandrin.
