Francesco PIRANESI (1758–1810) – [Fireworks at Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome]. “Fuoco artificiale detto la Girandola, which was set alight at Castel Sant’Angelo, formerly the Mausoleum of Hadrian”. c.1790. Etching after Louis Jean Desprez (c.1743–1804), on laid paper. Ref.: Wollin, no. 3. Proof of the 3rd state out of 3, with the number 6 in the top right-hand corner. Title and artists’ names “Desprez disegn” & “Fran. Piranesi inc.” beneath the composition. Full margins. 89 x 60 cm. Condition A/B (a few marginal foxing spots, a few small surface imperfections in the sky).
