Description
A Napoleon III-era writing case in vermilion-stained tortoiseshell veneer (Eretmochelys imbricata) with Boulle-style brass inlays, opening via a hinged lid to reveal a green velvet writing pad concealing a compartment. Pen case with a hinged lid revealing four compartments: an inkwell (stopper missing), a pen holder compartment with a bone button (Havers system noted), a compartment for feathers and a compartment for an hourglass. (Significant drying out of the tortoiseshell and areas missing) Height: 10.5, Length: 36.5, Depth: 25.5 cm Object made wholly or partly of material derived from a species listed in Annex I/A of the CITES/EU Convention (Eretmochelys imbricata), harvested and worked before 1975, meeting the definition of a ‘pre-Convention antique’ in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 865/2006, Article 2(w), implementing Regulation (EC) No 338/97, Article 7(3). Intra-European Union transport is authorised upon presentation of an expert report confirming the date and origin of the object.
