Description
FAVAUDON Georges Armand (1921–2008)
. Mother Branch. Large sculpture in the round in walnut, carved with an adze and chisels, partially sanded, pre-treated before finishing and with wax applied to the surface, signed, dated 1975.
Accompanied by a certificate dated 20 February 1980 intended for sellers, containing a handwritten text by the artist:
‘Mentally, man restores a human form to the inhuman aspect of things, but reason is but a framework; it requires content, it requires substance. Thus, behind the enigmatic appearance of facts, reason must find its counterpart—the reason behind things. Between reason as the framework of thought and reason as the secret framework of the universe, one must pierce the veil of appearances, establish a connection between them; and then there is the order of the world and there is our own. From that point on, the woman, the mother, set apart from all philosophy and through the weight of her personality, takes her place within the generous warmth of profound nature. Around her, alongside the father, are the child and the fruits of her gentle power. ’
Height: 184 cm.
Provenance: Original certificate by the artist enclosed.
