Description
JAPANESE WEAPONS. Wakizashi, a short Japanese sword. Unsigned blade in the shobu-zukuri style, a mekugiana. Oval tsuba in natural iron, habaki made from a single strip of brass, Satsuma-style war mount, perforated piece, simple lacing, undecorated fuchi and kashira, black lacquered wooden scabbard.
Japan, late Edo period (1600–1868), Shinshinto period, mid-19th century; the blade
may predate this. Total length 60 cm, nagasa 44.5 cm.
Fairly good condition; the kurikata is missing; a few minor blemishes and chips; slight
oxidation. The condition of the blade does not allow for a full appreciation of all its
crystalline features.
