Diameter : 54.7 cm
A very large porcelain dish decorated in blue underglaze, iron red and gold in the Imari palette, depicting carp (koi) leaping above the waves, a symbol of perseverance and good fortune. This decoration is associated with Tango no Sekku (Boys' Festival, now Children's Festival), celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the year in Japan.
A dish of the same design is kept at the National Trust for Scotland.
