A set of two ophthalmic instruments of rare quality and luxurious design. These two instruments were used together and have the same provenance.
They are both French and date from around 1760-1770:
- a spring cystotome by La Faye, used for cataract surgery.
Closed length: 10 cm.
The spring cystotome was invented by La Faye in 1752.
This example is made of solid silver and is in perfect condition. It is an important instrument in the history of ophthalmology and eye surgery.
