Description
Large wrought iron and wood amputation saw, France, early 18th century ?
Wrought iron and wood; length: 49 cm.
A large wrought iron amputation saw with an eight-sided wooden handle and a raven-beaked end.
The saw is unsigned but the decorative elements of the frame are similar to those found on early 18th century saws, in particular the heart-shaped butterfly clamp, the central, ornate part of the frame and the wide blade.
Oxidation, pewtering to one end of the blade and a fine crack to the handle; good condition and fine patina.
